Wild Thing.

OMG you guys! You'll never guess what I just heard. They are making a movie out of the book, "Where the Wild Things Are." Isn't that like the coolest thing you've ever heard (...incessantly...for the last 6 months)? Jokes aside, I am very excited to see this film. It's honestly like any hipster/indie kid's wet dream....Spike Jonze, Dave Eggers, Karen O, Arcade Fire for the trailer and a book from our youth. Um, score.

In honor of the film, my favorite "mixed tape" maker, Bobby Sullivan of Kitsune Noir, has put together a mixcast of songs that fit the spirit of WTWTA. It opens with Arcade Fire which delights me to no end. I've had a certain affinity for that band ever since I had the pleasure of seeing them perform as a still undiscovered gem at The Casbah, a 200-person venue in San Diego. Their set blew me away as the soul-pumping percussion swept over the crowd and RĂ©gine's emotional vocals seduced us all. Scout Niblett opened the show and this tiny wig-wearing woman killed it as she moved from quiet vocals to riotous drumming. Good times.

But seriously, how many of you are planning to see WTWTA this weekend? It's playing at an IMAX theatre in SF! Can't wait! I love that they used very little CGI for the wild things. Now, that's CGI done right...as opposed to 2012. Have you seen that trailer? Awful.

  1. I'm definitely going to see it, but not this weekend to avoid the mad rush. Oh, and about 2012... I feel sick every time I have to sit through that trailer on tv... I think it might just be the worst movie ever.

  2. hahahaha, everyone is blogging about it today! So cute :)

In my previous comment, I wrote I worked at a record shop. Well, record labels usually would send us tons of promo stuff for a new album, like posters, tshirts, and of course a sample CD to play in the store. Absolutely nothing came for us when the first Arcade Fire album came out. And since it was released at the very end of 2004 and magazines were very busy with end-of-the-year articles, so not one review was to be found about this mysterious album. So finally I bit the bullet and bought the CD one day while working, and popped it on the stereo system. This was in December of 2004. And we had to play the cd 4 times in a row, and then everyone scrambled to the office to change their "Best Albums of 2004" lists that we all did. And then, I believe in January, Filter Magazine (or maybe Virb) came out with a review, saying "No one saw this coming. When did this happen? Where did they come from? No one talked, knew a thing about it, and then all of a sudden it slammed us in the face." And they also reworked the album into their Top of 2004 list, I think to the very top, actually :)

Sorry, long story, but I think that it fits the band beautifully :)

  3. I saw it Friday night...I thought it was wonderful. It's funny how different the story seems to me as an adult versus when I was a child.
