Books. Check 'Em Out.

Today, UPPERCASE Magazine posted about the release of a new series of books from Taschen, the publisher of probably 75% of all the art and design books I own. Well, that percentage will be increasing soon because I need these books.

Type. A Visual History of Typeface and Graphic Styles, Vol. 1, 1628-1900 is on bookshelves now and is described as "The first in a two-volume set presenting an overview of typeface design, exploring the most beautiful and remarkable fonts in publishing history". Um, yes please! Volume 2 won't be released until February 2010...boo. I know it'll be worth the wait and it'll look pretty sweet on my coffee table. Maybe I can blow up the covers as posters, too!

If you buy through Taschen you also receive unlimited access to an online image library of over 1,000 downloadable high-resolution scans of type specimens. I'm pretty sure I would pay just to have 1,000 different versions of this. Actually, I know I would.

Eggs...They're What's for Dinner.

Chris is working late nights at the studio yet again on an installation for Introductions 2009 at Root Division that opens on our first anniversary. Lovely. Anyway, this means I've had free reign with dinner lately! This is nice since we don't always have the same tastes...I can eat much lighter, veggie filled foods and feel satisfied while he'd be happy with pasta for every. single. meal. Oh, and there's the whole nut thing.

I saw a post on The Kitchn a few days ago about five different ways to eat a fried egg. For some reason, I couldn't stop thinking about it yesterday. I wanted fried eggs ASAP, but knew I had to wait for dinner. I ran through what I had in my refrigerator and somehow I had the ingredients for a caprese salad (what is this, like the 27th time I've mentioned this salad on my blog?). So I decided to make one, hold the mozzarella, add a couple fried eggs.

Oh yeah! I fried the eggs in olive oil rather than butter. This was absolutely divine. If any of you have had brunch at Foreign Cinema, you've probably tasted their fried eggs deglazed with balsamic vinegar (also, a special shout out to their slow-cooked brown sugar smoked bacon...bacon of the gods!). Something about the pungent sweetness of the vinegar combined with the creamy goodness of the yolks makes my heart go pitter patter. The only thing that could have made this meal better would've been some Acme bread to sop up the last remnants of that sauce.

Will You Do This for Me?

Dear Reader with Great Taste (yes, you!),

Will you please do me an enormous favor? You know that extra room in your humble abode? That space that is screaming for something incredibly cool and unique and awesome? Well, I just found the perfect addition for you. So, can you please buy these theater style seats since I can't?

Thanks!
Jess

I Guess I'd Take It.

I am going absolutely ga-ga* over the use of wood in this apartment made by combining 3 smaller apartments in the ritzy Metropolitan Tower on West 57th Street in Manhattan. I'm just going to venture a guess and assume all of the built-ins are custom. Oh, and the view's not bad if you're into that whole floor-to-ceiling view of Central Park sort of thing. Also, the chairs and light fixture in the dining room. Um, yeah.

* Not to be confused with Lady Gaga. Don't worry, I am planning on wearing pants when I leave the house today.
